Arch is an Eyesore

Liberal Democrat councillor for Edmondsley and Waldridge, Philip Nathan, has criticised the new civic heart development in Chester-le-Street. The scheme for development of the town centre has cost Chester-le-Street more than £2 million pounds but is an eyesore.

He said " this development is out of tune with the identity of Chester-le-Street and frankly, in my opinion and the opinion of many others I talk to, the arch is not attractive in the least. It is very difficult to see how investing in this uninspiring piece of modern art will help with the "regeneration" of Chester-le-Street".

Local Liberal Democrats believe that council money should be spent effectively. If these kinds of funds are available we believe they should be spent on worthwhile projects such as projects to reduce anti-social behaviour, and effective projects to bring economic development to Chester-le-Street.
